Dental Bridges An Overview

Are you missing one or more teeth?

dental bridge nesconset nyA dental bridge is traditionally used to bridge the gap between one or several missing teeth. A dental bridge is comprised of dental crowns and pontics (false teeth), that are secured into place using your adjacent teeth or dental implants. An implant secured dental bridge offers many advantages over traditional dental bridges. When applicable, our dentists recommend an implant secured dental bridge for patients missing one or several teeth.

An implant or implant denture will restore the most natural function and aesthetics, providing the most stability for remaining adjacent teeth.

Top Benefits of An Implant Secured Bridge:

  • Preserves more of the natural teeth: A traditional dental bridge relies on the natural teeth for support. Over time, this can affect the integrity of the anchored teeth. With an implant secured bridge, the integrity and health of your teeth are not compromised, as the dental bridge relies on the dental implant for support.
  • A reliable solution for missing teeth: An implant-supported dental bridge can help put patients at ease because it eliminates the risk of slippage. An implant secured restoration adds much-needed comfort and support, which enables patients to smile more confidently.
  • Promotes bone growth in the jaw: Dental implants can help stimulate the bone underneath a missing tooth, which help promote bone regeneration in the jaw. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement that can encourage bone growth in the jaw.

At Nesconset Dental Associates we offer both traditional and implant secured dental bridges for patients with lost teeth. Our dedicated team of dentists will work with you to determine which solution best suits your unique dental needs. Dental Bridges What to Expect

The process in which you acquire your dental bridge will depend on whether you need dental implants or crowns for your dental bridges. During your consultation, we will examine your teeth, gums, and jaw to determine the best solution for your smile. In many cases, receiving a custom dental bridge will require 2-3 visits to our dental office.

If the dental bridge is anchored using adjacent teeth, we may need to place dental crowns to help create a more stable foundation.

If dental implants are used to anchor a dental bridge, the implants will need to be surgically attached before the placement on the dental bridge. Dental implants take anywhere from 3-6 months fully fuse into the jawbone. Once the implants have entirely healed, impressions of your teeth are taken and sent to a dental lab for the fabrication of your dental bridge.

In both cases, a temporary bridge may be attached to your adjacent teeth or dental implants while your final restoration is being fabricated.
